MiCantera is a startup from Antioquia, Colombia, born from watching amateur sports clubs in our city up close. We saw passionate coaches wrestling with WhatsApp groups, notebooks and spreadsheets to manage their players, payments and training. We knew there was a better way.
Colombia has thousands of amateur sports clubs that are the heart of their communities. Behind each one is a person (a coach, a parent, a director) who spends their free time so kids and teenagers have a place to grow. But that person also had to do all of this with no tool designed for them:
Collecting monthly fees through WhatsApp groups
Keeping notebooks and spreadsheets by hand
Running raffles to fund uniforms
No visibility into who owes or is up to date
The MiCantera team comes from that world. It grew up in it. And it decided to build the tool that coach always needed but nobody had made for Colombia.
The person leading MiCantera knows first-hand what happens to most amateur clubs: everything is handled by hand, in Excel and over WhatsApp, and as the club grows it becomes chaos that depends on one single person. They played and studied football in Germany, one of the countries with the best sports infrastructure in the world, and MiCantera aims to bring a bit of that way of managing sport to Latin America, because the ultimate goal, through amateur football, is to keep impacting lives.

After running a sports club in Medellín and talking with dozens of clubs that shared the same problems (manual payments, WhatsApp, Excel), the idea for miCANTERA was born.
